Help Through the Credit Crunch
Written by Tim Swift
May 02, 2009 at 03:08 PM

Thanks to Labour's budget proposals, Calderdale Council has set up a two million pounds fighting fund for action to help get Calderdale through the economic recession.

As one small part of this work, a special edition of 'Calderdale Call' has been produced to tell residents more about help and advice available from many different agencies in Calderdale.

If you've not received yours yet, please email us and we will get a copy. (It's not available on the Council website yet, for some reason - we'll chase this up, and link to it as soon as we can).

Calderdale’s Passport to Leisure Scheme becomes a ‘Freedom Pass’ for older people on Monday – thanks to an initiative taken at the time of last year’s Council budget by Calderdale’s Labour group.

From Monday26th January 2009, the charges for Passport to Leisure cards have been scrapped. Everyone over 60 is now entitled to a ‘life time’ card. And if they hold a national concessionary bus pass, they can use this instead – making it easier than ever to take advantage of reduced cost leisure opportunities.

Call for Re-think Over Library and Archives
Written by Tim Swift
Mar 21, 2009 at 04:56 PM
Cllr Tim Swift and Cllr Barry Collins, on behalf of the Labour Group on Calderdale Council are calling for a major review of decision to move the Halifax Central Library to the new Broad Street Development.

Cllr Collins said – “The Labour Group is really concerned about this proposal - and with good reason:

The new library appears to be much smaller and it would boot out the archives from the centre of Halifax.   As the excellent letter from Professor Hudson stated (Courier, 10th March), this would be a disaster:  Describing our existing archive he said: ‘”very few towns and cities in Britain can boast such a state-of-the-art facility, easily reachable by public transport”.
